Corporate event planning can impress clients

partyIn times of economic gloom it may seem wise to cut back on corporate event planning and networking events. But don't be too hasty - bringing people together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere is the ideal way to promote your business.

"The key is to make the event memorable," says Ane Fonua from Brisbane's popular function spot Jade Buddha. "Everything from the invitations you choose to the drinks you serve should say something about your brand and reinforce your identity." Here are Ane's top tips for a corporate party to remember.

Party with a view

Consider corporate event planning that has water or city views. "Views make an event seem special and more 'expensive'," explains Ane. "They add to the atmosphere without the additional cost of decoration."

Hire an MC

Hiring a professional MC can be a good idea to keep things on track and entertain your guests in the process. Award nights are one type of corporate party that could definitely use some direction, says Ane.

"Because award nights tend to drag on a little bit, you risk losing people's attention after a while," she says. "A professional MC will keep the crowd engaged and interested."

Choose appropriate music

Choice of music can be very important at corporate events, and can make the difference between people successfully networking or standing around like wallflowers.

"You don't want music that's overpowering or loud - aim for subtle background music," says Ane. "Also, if it's a networking event, book an area that's private and quiet, not an area of a club that's cordoned off at 7 o'clock on a Friday night."

Create a social atmosphere

Keep seating at networking events to a minimum, suggests Ane. "Otherwise people won't mingle as much; they'll just sit down in groups with people they already know," she says.

Instead, opt for high tables and stools that encourage people to move around and interact. "But make sure you do have some seating for when the ladies' high heels start to hurt," is Ane's advice.

Put on a good spread

Don't skimp on food and drinks at your corporate party or event. "Quality of food is definitely important," says Ane. "Look for a venue that does menu tastings for free - by tasting the food beforehand, you'll know what to expect on the night."

Party perfect

Remember, everyone loves a party and events that bring people together. And when it comes to establishing your brand and generating leads, events that encourage face-to-face interaction can be 100 more times effective than any other marketing initiative.
