What are good corporate event venues?

A good corporate venue prides itself on offering clients a high standard of customer service, says Edwina Loiterton, President of Sydney's Unique Venues Association (SUVA).

"It's about assisting you with all your event needs. Clients are not only looking for a venue to hire, they are looking for event support, suggestions and ideas, including catering, audiovisual and theming."

Make it memorable

A good corporate venue should offer something unique to clients, says Edwina – an alternative to traditional function centres and hotels.

"The State Theatre in Sydney's CBD, for example, is a magnificent heritage theatre also available for corporate events."

Offering an experience combined with an event, such as a guided tour of a gallery or an afternoon at the races, is another way to make your function unique.

Nourishment

Keeping people's hunger and thirst at bay helps staff concentrate, while feeling that their needs have been cared for. Even providing access to coffee- and tea-making facilities can give a competitive edge with potential sales leads.

Melbourne's Old Treasury Building, a grand alternative to the traditional corporate venues, is one that prides itself on providing excellent service to function guests. And sometimes that added service can make or break a deal.

Location

How central a venue is to the city can impact on the number of clients willing to attend presentations. Find out if public transport is close by – and whether the venue needs to be close to the airport if people are flying in from interstate or overseas.

Rydges Perth is a contemporary-style hotel in the heart of the city's central business district, which makes it convenient for people to attend meetings there.

Catering for everyone

A good corporate venue caters to the needs of everyone; for instance, people with disabilities and people with prams. After all, you want everyone to be able to access your meeting or enjoy your function.

Not surprisingly, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, given its size, boasts versatile function spaces. This makes it an appealing option when you're considering the sort of messages you want to convey to clients.

It's in the detail

Go the extra step and make staff parties a bit more personal by checking if you can select your own music.

The Australian Leadership Innovation Centre (ALIC) in Canberra, for example, is designed to be a creative and flexible learning space where teams can brainstorm, network or relax with a cappuccino.

Good for your business

Clearly, taking the time to make sure that your next event is held in the right space will pay your business big dividends. Check out the options available in your city.
