Hiring corporate caterers in Brisbane for your business event

The requirements

Organisers scheduled a 30-minute interval around midday. The food needed to be ready and waiting in the foyer of the boardroom.

The sales staff would be standing during lunch, so the food needed to be convenient to serve and simple to eat - with no cutlery required. Soup was out. Sandwiches, bagels and fruit were in.

Contacting the caterer

With a quick turnaround a requirement, Jason Jewell, the franchise owner of the nearest Fancy Fillings, a national gourmet sandwich chain, faxed through the menu.

"When they knew how many people they were catering for, they called me back with questions," says Jason.

Those questions included:

  • Do you provide plates and napkins? - No.
  • Do you charge for delivery? - No.
  • How do we return the platters? - Fancy Fillings collects them.
  • What are the drink options? – Juices and soft drinks by request.

The menu

Fancy Fillings corporate catering specialises in breakfast, morning tea and lunch; hence the menu options are geared toward food suitable for a day-long sales meeting.

"For lunch, our options included sandwich platters, focaccias, paninis and bagels with various fillings," Jason says.

"We also offered hot foods, ranging from bacon-and-egg muffins to mini savoury croissants and other finger foods. That was followed with fruit and cheese platters and a cake platter."

Costs

"Everything is priced out individually per person," says Jason. To provide lunch for 15 staff, he provided the following cost estimates:

  • sandwich platter - around $60
  • mini panini, bagels and Turkish breads platter - around $100
  • fruit and cheese platter - $55
  • cake platter - around $74
  • soft drinks and juices - around $40.

Benefits of corporate catering

The benefits to the publishing company of catering lunch for the sales conference included:

  • Speed: Providing lunch kept the meeting on schedule. Delegates leaving the office for lunch would have cost more time.
  • Convenience: Fancy Fillings took the order one day, delivered it the next.
  • Cost effectiveness: For less than $400 the publisher achieved its goal for the day. Confining the meeting to one day saved on overnight accommodation for sales reps.
  • Gratitude: Offering food to staff was a sign of appreciation for attending the meeting and showed their value to the company.
