Brochure designing services to effectively promote your business

image of discount logoBrochure designing services can be an extremely effective marketing tool for your business, as long as its design is spot on, says graphic designer Mike Ford of Green Gecko.

"Digital printing costs have come down so much that consumers are now being bombarded with brochures and catalogues, so many people treat them as junk mail," he says.

But by following a few basic rules, you can make your brochure design stand out from the crowd and generate sales for your business.

Get noticed

Ensure your brochure grabs the customer's attention by placing an appealing image, a great offer or benefit on the front. Don't crowd too much into the brochure design, however, as it can appear 'busy' and this often puts people off.

Mike says it's also best to avoid certain colours when designing a brochure – an obvious one being yellow text on a white background, which can be difficult to read.

Brochure formats

One of the simplest and most effective brochure formats is the tri-fold design created from an A4 piece of paper.

This gives you three panels to fill on the inside, which is enough space for a simple company description, a few paragraphs on your competitive advantages and offerings, and a 'call to action' motivating the reader to make contact.

The inside front panel is a good location for a glowing testimonial or a summary explaining why the customer should choose your business. The back cover is best left blank except for contact details such as address, phone number, email and website.

Preparing your brochure

When writing text for your brochure, don't go into a long and complicated company history - this isn't the right place for it. Instead, keep the text short and sweet so the reader can grasp the main points at a glance.

Make sure you:

  • get to the point quickly
  • speak directly to the customer
  • outline the benefits of using your business
  • use headings and sub-heads to group ideas together
  • use simple language and avoid the use of industry jargon and acronyms

Keep it consistent

Mike says consistency is paramount when designing a new brochure for your business, as it effectively forms part of your marketing activity.

Therefore, ensure that the colours and images used in your brochure design are consistent with your company brand, logo and other marketing materials.
