Benefits of using a cleaning franchise
Using one of the leading cleaning franchises has a range of benefits for you, the office manager or business owner:
Business opportunities
"Anyone interested in getting into the business should speak to the Building Service Contractors Association or my organisation, the Australian Cleaning Contractors Association (ACCA)," says John Laws, Executive Director of ACCA.
"We can discuss with them the possibilities; that is, whether they become a franchisee, a subcontractor or a full service contractor, depending upon their knowledge, experience and contacts."
According to John, a contractor finds work by tendering for publicly advertised jobs from the newspapers, by cold calling or relationship building. A subcontractor then does the work on behalf of the contractor.
A major benefit of franchising is that the parent companies advertise and keep their profiles high, using franchisee fees. "Their higher profile generates more opportunities for work," John says.
Choosing a franchise
The well-established businesses mentioned above all offer franchising opportunities, but how can you establish the credibility of smaller companies?
"That's pretty straightforward," says John. "Go and visit them, ask for copies of the franchise agreement and take them to your solicitor."
Alternatively, you could ask for referees. Talk to other people who are working the franchise system and find out what they think.
