Creating a glass office for your business workplace

“Glass comes in many different finishes, whether it be clear, textured, sand blasted or back painted,” says Wendy Bird of Sydney Office Furniture.

“When added to a simple piece of furniture it can create a unique look, no matter what the design.”

Glass is durable

Contrary to perceptions, glass office furniture is more durable than timber and doesn’t need repolishing or lacquering. It doesn’t scratch as easily as other materials such as timber or painted finishes, which means your office looks newer for longer.

“Glass can be used as a simple protection over a timber-top desk,” Wendy says. “More commonly we use glass as a feature insert in boardroom tables and reception desks.

“Glass laid over existing timber desk tops is a great way of protecting the timber from being scratched, keeping the desk surface new forever.”

Good first impressions

The reception area is the first thing your clients see and it can benefit from sleek glass additions to add light and space.

“The use of glass is very popular for reception hob tops, with the glass piece mounted on pins and floating above a solid top,” says Wendy.

Glass also looks great as a feature in the front panel of reception desks, with the option of back lighting for added effect.

Not just part of the furniture

Glass has many functional and design purposes aside from its use in furniture. It is also popular and useful in office partitions and signage. Signs can be etched into glass and mounted onto a wall or incorporated into a furniture piece. Glass partitions can also be installed, with company logos or custom design graphics built in. “Glass is a flexible artistic decoration,” Wendy says.

Partitions can be double glazed to assist with acoustics and glass whiteboards are a popular alternative to the standard whiteboard, being stylish and unusual and offering a stain-free writing surface.

The illusion of space

While glass allows light to flow through the office, it also works very well in creating a feeling of open space. Similarly, mirrors can be used to make areas look and feel more spacious - vital when office space comes at a premium.

It’s worth investing in glass office furniture to add to the functionality, style and spaciousness of your premises.
