Security monitoring keeps your business under surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With a purpose-designed system in place, any breach of security attracts a rapid response, helping protect your valuable business assets.
How security monitoring works
"In the event of an alarm, the security system seizes a phone line, dials an offsite monitoring station, and sends a report to the alarm monitoring company," says Bryce Kertesz of Integrity, specialists in security monitoring.
"That report detects and communicates what's happened, whether it's a break-glass sensor, a passive infra-red sensor, a door sensor, or multiple triggers."
A system that suits
Bryce says a business can tailor security monitoring to its own circumstances. In the event of an alarm, it is your choice how the monitoring station reacts.
"For example, you can tell them to ignore a single activation," he says. "It could be a rat or some sort of interference. Some businesses only want to be contacted for multiple triggers."
Some systems have cameras in the detectors, enabling an image to be sent back to the monitoring station. "If they see a dog they are obviously not going to react, but if they see a person, the response will reflect that," says Bryce.
Reasons for security monitoring
Existing alarm system
"Unless you have an antique alarm system, you can add alarm monitoring very easily," Bryce says, pointing out that most commercial alarm systems have the necessary diallers built in.
"A good, new commercial system," he adds, "should have the option of a phone dialler and other options such as mobile phone contact technology."
