Corner computer desks for an impressive workplace interior

But what makes the corner, or L-shaped office computer desk an effective workstation? How does it enhance efficiency, both for the worker and the office space?

Flexibility

According to Elaine Montgomery, director and administrator of Able Office Furniture, the increasing popularity of the corner workstation is simple to explain: it's more user friendly.

"You can use it either as solely a computer desk or as a computer desk and standard desk. You also have a lot of desk space within easy reach," she says.

"Users have the ability to sit into the corner or straight on, and they can be arranged left or right, depending on office layout; and the corner itself is often rounded, making it a more comfortable shape to sit in."

Adjustable keyboard

"As a feature, the adjustable-keyboard corner desk is becoming obsolete," says Elaine. "Cost tends to turn people away from them, as they can be significantly more than a standard workstation."

Elaine notes that increasingly sophisticated office chairs are making the adjustable keyboard feature redundant, with ergonomic efficiency achieved by adjusting the chair. For tall or short people, it is more efficient to adjust the height of the entire desk rather than just the keyboard.

Efficient use of office space

Using corner computer desks can also mean more efficient use of precious floor space.

"A straight desk is often 900 millimetres deep, whereas a corner workstation is more likely to be 750 millimetres. If you were doing a big office fitout, you would fit more in," says Elaine.

"For desks arranged in clusters or positioned back to back, that space saving on each desk is multiplied across the entire floor, freeing up space for other equipment, bookcases or desks."

Matching desks to business types

What do your staff use their desk for? Do they only use a computer or do they need space to assess documents and keep reference materials handy?

"A call centre can use very space-efficient corner desks – 1500 x 1200 millimetres," explains Elaine. "The staff basically interact with a computer and a telephone, so the extra space would be wasted."

Office desk clusters

Elaine says the corner desk lends itself to 'clustering'. Desk clusters are ideal for:

·       call centres

·       community centres

·       libraries

·       schools

·       training centres.

Corner computer desk costs

"It depends on the desk, of course," Elaine says, "difference in price is largely related to a few things: the size, the quality, the finish, whether it has been imported or produced locally."
