But how do you choose the right painting contractor for your business?

Choosing a painting contractor

Given the high number of painting contractors on the market, it can be confusing, time consuming and costly searching for the perfect fit for your needs.

According to Lachlan Baird, General Manager of Master Painters Association, ensuring that your painting contractor is licensed should be the first step.

"Employing a licensed contractor gives you a certain reassurance that they will perform the work within the standards of painting and decorating," says Lachlan. "This means the risks to your business are much lower than if you employ someone who is unqualified."

Someone you can trust

One way to make the process of selecting a painting contractor easier for your business is to go through the Master Painters Association, says Lachlan. "We have a large number of painting contractors registered with us," he says.

Lachlan also advises that it's a very good idea to check on any potential painting contractor's previous work and references.

"If the contractor is unwilling to provide you with details of past commercial projects they have completed, I would question whether it's a good idea to let them perform your work," he says.

Be wary of backyard boys

There is no shortage of painters on the market, which can result in a lot of competition on price. But choosing an unlicensed painting contractor as a cheaper alternative could actually cost your business time and money in fixing up a bodgie job.

Be smart and shop around

When choosing a painting contractor it's important to shop around, as prices can vary. Make sure you get at least three quotes before making a decision, but remember - sometimes the cheapest job can cost you money in the long run.
